Emergency Prep
Ah, so you're ready to get your supplies. You can find everything that you need in Diagon Alley. Where is Diagon Alley? You ask. Well, You have to go to the Leaky Cauldron in London. It's a little pub that's sandwiched in between a book store and a record shop. The best part is, only witches and wizards can see it. I'll meet you there.
Alright, so we're here. We have to go to the alley way on the other side of the pub, but first let me introduce you to the world of Butterbeer. You can find Butterbeer here inside of the Leaky Cauldron and in Hogsmeade there are 2 pubs, the Three Broomsticks and Hog's Head.
Alright so now we have to open up the passage way to Diagon Alley. You can only do this with a wand, so next year you can do this. Right above the trash can you count 3 bricks up and 2 across. Got it? Now we tap that brick 3 times.
Finally, we can go get your supplies. Have you checked your list recently?

Right, so you are going to need money. Do you have the money your parents gave you? Perfect! Our first stop is Gringotts. It's the wizarding bank. You can take Muggle money in there and have it exchanged for wizarding currency.
"Gringotts was the safest place in the world for something you wanted to hide — except perhaps Hogwarts."

You've got you money, now let's take you to get your wand. Each wand is crafted specially and the wand always chooses the wizard/witch. Don't be mad if the wand you pick up first isn't right. You can always get the best wands at Ollivanders. He, like his father before him, remembers every wand he ever sold and there are a lot of them. A wand from him will cost you 7 Galleons. They are expensive because you only ever should buy 1 wand.

On to buy your uniform. We need to get you to Madam Malkin's shop. They'll be fitting lots of boys and girls for robes. Madam Malkin retired after my first year at Hogwarts, her children took over the shop after she retired. They all are always there because each year the number of students for each of the schools seem to be increasing greatly.
All of this tends to get really expensive so I recommend you buy the hat used, and the robes used. Used robes aren't as bad as you may think. I bought used robes my first year and I found lots of cool stuff that was left in the pockets. All new clothing would cost you 86 Galleons, 12 Sickles, and 28 Knuts. That's almost 441 Pounds, going to Hogwarts is not cheap. |
Ahh, books are next. You need a total of 8 books, my first year they chose a different book for my Care of Magical Creatures class. I never read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I wish I did though, maybe I'll pick it up today. We're going to Flourish and Blotts. There are so many books in there, which is nice when you need more books to read.
Anyways, brand new books are going to run you like 70 pounds. Which is 13 Galleons and 12 Sickles. I highly recommend getting used books. Sure they are falling apart but you can tape them all up and decorate them to look nice. You can also get your quills, ink, and parchment here.

The next shop over you can get your cauldron, telescope, potions kit, phials, gloves, and scales. That will run you 22 Galleons or around 108 Pounds. I tell you, everything you have to buy is very expensive.

Now this last part is optional, it's a pet. I didn't get one until I was a third year. I got myself an owl. It costed me 107 pounds, which of course is 21 Galleons, 11 Sickles, and 28 Knuts.
